A toy for our kids who are learning to read. The code is available here.
The player guesses at the letters in a word. A single letter is revealed at the start. With each missed guess a scoop of ice cream disappears from a cone. Aim to hold on to as much ice cream as you can but the game will continue until the word is complete.
Our kids helped create the ice cream scoop art. They decorated cardboard scoops which were then scanned in. The top scoop is made from sprinkles in school glue.
Before this project we had played with turtle graphics in Python and then ScratchJr but the artwork here added something tangible. We had fun, we were exposed to the idea that computers can augment creativity, and we saw that computers are approachable even with crayon in hand.
